Chiropractic.......FOR A KID?! | Grace's Story

ree

My last post was about my son's chronic ear infections when he was a baby, and how chiropractic ended up by being our surprise cure. (Catch that article here.) Today, I'd like to tell you about how my oldest daughter became a chirokid.

Grace's birth was extraordinary. She was born naturally, in a birth tub, at a birthing home under the care of a midwife. The first few weeks of Grace's life were wonderful. She was a terrific baby and the perfect addition to our home. However, we began to notice something was off with her. She seemed to always have trouble when it came time for her to "go".

My wife and I were still very new to our health journey, and although chiropractic had helped us with our son's problems, we didn't think about it when Grace began having her problems. We did what we were taught to do, and brought her in to her pediatrician.

He suggested suppositories, and so we did that.

My wife exclusively breastfed her, and when Grace had trouble, we used suppositories. Her constipation came and went, but it came and went frequently. When she was a bit older, the pediatrician recommended prune juice, or more of another kind of juice, and probiotics. All of the things he suggested we followed. Again, her constipation would come and go. We felt like we were on a train of management, but we were looking for a cure. My wife began to share her frustrations with me. She felt that there must be something else going on with our daughter. After all, children should be able to poop, right? It shouldn't be this complicated or this traumatic! (It was heartbreaking to watch a constipated baby try to go. If you have seen it, you know what I mean.) Time after time, we were assured and reassured that she needed to just be on probiotics, juices, use laxatives etc..

Time went on, and she refused to be potty trained for "number twos". Grace had learned that if she got on to all fours, it would be less hard to "go". It was still a struggle, but it didn't hurt her as much. You cant use the toilet on all fours, so she was in diapers for longer than usual.

It wasn't until I began chiropractic school myself that we witnessed Grace's miracle.

My wife brought both kids into the chiropractic clinic at the school to be seen. During the first appointment the doctor asked if any of the kids had issues. So much time had gone by that our daughter's constipation had just become a part of our daily life. My wife didn't even think about it, and so she responded and said that they didn't have any problems she could think of. When the doctor began palpating (checking/feeling/analyzing) Grace's spine, she got to her pelvis and suddenly came to a stop. She turned to my wife and asked if Grace had any problems going to the bathroom.

A lightbulb went off in my wife's head and she blurted out a big, "YES!!!!"

After years of being assured and reassured that the constipation was nothing to worry about and it is just something that "happens" FINALLY, my wife felt like somebody was really listening and caring.

After telling Dr. O'Neal that Grace had been constipated since birth, Dr. O'Neal calmly explained to my wife that our daughter had probably been subluxated (misalignment in the spinal which presses on the spinal chord and interrupts brain-body function) during the birthing process. She then took a minute, really, ONE minute, to gently correct the misalignment in my daughter's pelvis.

That night at home, we couldn't find Grace. We looked in all of her usual places and we couldn't find her anywhere. My wife then checked the bathroom and sure enough, there our little girl was, sitting on the toilet, going number two... all by herself.

A miracle.

But I'm not talking about the chiropractor or the adjustment.

The chiropractor isn't the source of the miracle.

The adjustment isn't the source of the miracle.

The miracle is the body.

The miracle is that our bodies were divinely created, and they were created to self-heal. When we get a cut, and put on a band aid, the band aid isn't what heals the cut. The body heals itself.

From that day on, my wife and I were completely sold on the science of chiropractic. It felt aligned with all of our other belief systems but more than that-

as Grace has grown, she has continued to be a chirokid and she never had problems with constipation ever again.

Because of the miracles I saw with my own children, when I was in school I made sure to pick up all of the exposure I could to learn about how to adjust and care for babies and children.

If you've had some health issues or problems with your children and you, like my wife, have a gut feeling that there is just something that isn't being addressed, please come in and see us. We would love to see if we can help restore the miracle of the body for your babies and/or kids.

We are a chiropractic practice run by family, for families.
